For one, here on voat, stories which are critical of Israel/zionism don't get automatically/instanty culled. That alone is a huge difference between here and reddit.

voatergoater

We don't and won't. Watch, look, listen - draw your own conclusions.

Gamerdog6482

Yeah I've subscribed to plenty, my top bar is still the "originals" though.

Apparently you can change this in the settings...gonna go check that out.

penisse

I get it. What about they discuss about outside is there problem, how they moderate whatever onsite is public and will eventually expose them.

penisse

What if the mods "meet" on some external private IRC to conspire? (honest question, I am here above all because the tupperware-thinking got me tired of reddit)

mr_skeltal

What is tupperware-thinking? I know tupperware is those plastic containers people sell but I can't make the connection ha

penisse

a tupperware is a sterilized closed box. tupperware thinking is thinking without risks, just confronting already accepted ideas and concepts.

mr_skeltal

Oh ok, thanks for explaining.

Reddit admins were complicit in moderator abuse and censorship. The reddit Mod logs that have been released prove that moderator abuse is the rule rather than the exception. They work in secret. They look down on users. They believe their world view is superior to all others and delete opposition view points- and they did it with the support and encouragement of administration. The reddit admins would even take subs away from users that disagreed with them and give the subs to the very mods users were fleeing from. If any view runs contrary to their corrupt narrative, they delete, ban, and harass users across multiple subs.

Voat has adopted a culture of openness, fairness, and sharing. There will no doubt be problems here in the future, but so far voat's admins have been very responsive to user concerns about those who would abuse their power.

Gamerdog6482

Rather soon, every moderator action will be totally public and able to be audited.

That alone is a huge step up from reddit.

nroslm

I think admin actions should be public as well but a great step regardless. Been advocating on reddit for years for such a thing, even in the 'additional comments' when surveys are put forth.

Gamerdog6482

There are no default subverses

slowly looks to the top of my screen

Are...are you sure about that?

scottishPsycho

You can change the top to display your subscriptions in your user preferences.

LizardBreathe

There is a default list that populates at the top, but you are not subscribed to them. On Reddit, you start by being subscribed to the defaults and have to manually unsub each of them. Plus, once you start subing, you can have the top bar set to your subs. I believe they will improve it over time. Any suggestions and improvements, hit /v/ideasforvoat , see if it your idea has been already submitted, and if not submit your idea.
