My best guess is the outrage produced by pharma-bro is being turned into goodwill for pharma who will then use "grassroot" support to abolish or leash the FDA , which is a money pit already, so they don't have to test their drugs or use the Chinese model.

Killing the FDA is the dream of a lot of the ... health conspiracists (a.k.a., the "NaturalNews Crowd"). Feels good, right? Nah, feels grrr-eat !

If anything, we need to strengthen the FDA and have their regulations improved. European food is simply better. They have stricter food controls.

Even the KFC surpasses ours.

I agree with your premise, but the execution is impossible currently. The U.S. federal government is a fucking circus act. A lot of things need to be changed, because the corruption is rampant and no matter what the "law says," corporations can pad the pockets of those in charge.

I somewhat agree with your conclusion, but the old chestnut among the conspiracy-minded is that evil never wants freedom -- it wants regulation, because regulations can be corrupted and controlled. It's worth asking who the FDA works for. I'd say that most governmental regulatory agencies hold to Mussolini's definition of fascism: government in service of industry. That's (honestly) both good and bad.

And, yeah, even MacDo is good overseas.

It's just weird that the food in Europe is so significantly better. You would think that a free(er) market would bring tastier, fresher food... but it seems to do the opposite in the search for profit

Food and borders are weird. It's part of why I can't really join in FPH. If you live in the tropics, it's easy to bleed webight. Live in the cold? Welcome to tubiness. I'd also guard against considering "Europe" as a whole: the EU wants you to do that, but... the food varies. I personally have difficulty in .it and .uk, but other places work for me.

FreeMarketeers will tell you that people would always pick tastier food, but... the "free market" is a bit of a lie. Most profit-seeking industries are as interested in creating demand as filling and manufacturing shortages as manufacturing product. They're happy enough to have the FDA around. Look at "raw milk cheese". It's a good excuse for Kraft to move "non-cheese" and outlaw real cheese.
