Why? Well, that is probably simple. Most people at some juncture in their lives, develop a moral conscience. For bankers, this will be later in their lives because as younger people, they sell their souls for money and power. At this junction point (they have a family, or they are getting old etc) they try to get out of their deals they have done with the devil. (I am being allegorical here, I do not actually believe in a horned demon, thought that would be in some ways kinda cool, but i digress..) however, the devil will always collect.

You can't start from conclusions and then work your way up to a reason if you want to have any pretext of finding the truth rather than making elaborate accusations your hobby. I agree with BBQue here that its much more likely to be a combination of factors, as the only thing in common seems to be their jobs.
