Russia should have known not to put their planes in those areas. Turkey needs to protect their borders, they had previously been bombed by Syria on the Turkish side, Russia is allied with Assad and is likely to bomb Turkey as well. Russia would not let other countries bomb around, on and over their borders and should not expect that from other countries either. Putin just wasted a pilot to make a dumb jab, when Turkey is just being prudent and protective of their citizens.

Erdogan has been arming IS for a year to fight the Kurds and build an atmosphere of fear so he could win the election. He probably let the terrorists bomb that political rally that was opposed to him.
