There was a fork in the path, back in the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, when compassion and itegrity could have set up a cooperative society, and the rich would still have become rich, just a little slower.

Sadly, it was not to be. I have imagined many times as I lay in bed awake, a cloudy possibility of a world in which everyone's welfare is part of my own; and if I ruled the world, how I would go about seeing to the health, welfare and happiness of every cog in the wheel. Pipe dreams. This world isn't ready for that; here is a case in point.

Evil starts with the upper hand, because it is without conscience; and people of goodwill are suborned before they recognise what they're involved in. Once the process is underway, the rest of us are particles in a front-load washing machine.
