no i think it is extremely arrogant of us to think we are going to be able to fix it though.

as agent smith said, we are a virus, our population growth is the real problem. if we cut our CO2 output by 50% but our pop grows 25% in the same time frame we are in an even worse situation.

Federal science grants only go to people looking to prove that man made climate change is real and funds are cut from any opposing points of view. The major journals will only publish papers that agree with the theory. The UN is going to use climate change as the excuse to set up global governance and global taxes to bring about a technocratic world order. The oil companies are funding a lot of this stuff. Its not about the environment, its about CONTROL.

Nogrim

so you think it is more likely that 10's of thousands of poorly funded scientists are involved in a conspiracy, rather than a handful of billion dollar oil companies paying to protect their investments?

The majority of Beijing is urbanized. I'm talking about affecting the planet. Dead land is dead land, but that doesn't mean everywhere is Chernobyl or Fukushima either.

To me, personally and from what I have read/researched, its not so much of pollution (although it doesn't help) but more of terra-forming.

We literally wipe out mountains and remove forests. Stop rivers and create lakes. Fill up oceanic areas with sand that never existed. This completely changes the ecology of the area and can devastate symbiotic relationships this had with surrounding natural areas.

Then you add pollution and the outcome of a "consume and throw-away" society and you get today.

rocket_robin_hood

Yea, how arrogant of us to assume that./s Were just raping parts of our planet, it would be stupid for us to assume that we can do that without seeing consequences eventually.

Chiefpacman

When I first read it, I figured you meant in terms of development and growth as society. After reading comments angry about climate change, I can't tell.

Are you referring to our ideology that the 19th & 20th century were golden ages in human history; or our damage to the environment?

I think only fools would believe such a smidgen of weather research over the course of the Earth's lifetime can make any definite conclusions.

As for tech, I don't think were fools in thinking we are pretty grand. We could just about wipe out human existence thru nuclear warfare. Plus planes and stuff.

goatboy

No, but I think its extraordinarily arrogant to speak out your ass against real scientists with real peer reviewed journal articles and real measuring equipment.

HumanitysPrecipice

We dug up parts of the earth and set it all on fire. Honestly it's kind of amazing we haven't done more damage than we have.

PassingShip

Why? Algae changed the whole atmosphere, and they don't even have machines.
