No, I think the more that you are exposed to them, the more likely you are to investigate and think about the events. The government doesn't want you to think, they want you to accept what the media tells you.

I had a very smart teacher in the 80s who spouted conspiracy theories. Since, literally, no one else talked about conspiracy theories in those days, he sounded like a lone nut case. Looking back, I wonder how he figured this stuff out without the internet.

if you put enough truth in a lie it becomes believable, while the truth seems so outlandish you wouldnt think there is any chance it would be real.

does the govenment infiltrate communities that question them? yes all the time. they divide and conquer just like they do everywhere else.

Devildetails

That's a conspiracy theory you government spook.

NikoMyshkin

why not? there's nothing to stop them therefore we must assume it happens some of the time

I strongly encourage you check out the show. It's fucking gold.

Yeah there was this episode where basically Cartman believes in 9/11 conspiracy theories, and Kyle tries to show him he's being an idiot. They end up going to this conspiracy theorists house, wjere they get raided and the guy has arsenic everywhere. The boys and theorist get taken to the White House; where Bush shoots the conspiritor guy and threatens the boys to not look into 9/11. Specifics escape me but from there Kyle and Cartman wonder into Bush and Conspirator guy laughing about it in another room. It had turned out the gov just wants 1/4 of the 'retarded' population to believe the government is all powerful.

Sorry if you weren't looking for a recap. But yeah, pretty good episode.

That is Alex Jones's job at infowars: to create a war on information. He sets the standard, debunks himself - who knows where the fuck his funding is coming from.

SaneGoatiSwear

lol, of course they do.

they do it so much they made it legal to have less of a problem doing more of it.

they've got so much static on the line no one can understand what anyone's saying.

entropyosaurus

Some of the more outlandish conspiracy theories are probably part of a disinformation campaign.

Mylon

I don't think they have to invent the outlandish theories so much as find the crazy people and discretely slip them a megaphone.

ElspethTirel

Or are so outlandish that they are the truth. But in reality, who knows? When will we ever know? Probably as the world is erupting in nuclear explosions we'll nod in unison and go "yeah...."

Chiefpacman

That's a south park joke. I suppose it's possible, but highly unlikely- and no evidence.
