Could anyone ELI5 me why it's necessary to follow illigitimate laws?

QuestionEverything

Dissent is a red flag and they will target will you. That's why.

These tools let them identify dissent.

Wait until TPP passes. Then they'll have the prosecuting body and the enforcement ability.

CommonSense

It would be awesome if most of you would snap out of the insane delusion that government is good or even necessary.

escapefromredditbay

if voat is a US corporation, then does that mean voat has to follow CISA?

squidicuz

it all makes sense now...

tcp

It's time to form a grassroots freedom league spearheaded by Rand Paul, but make it clear it is opposed to the Tea Partiers and won't be taken over the same way.

ShineShooter

Did they just build a new database in Utah?

unband

Obama signed it when it was pushed in the budget bill that he basically had to sign. They buried so much sketchy shit in there it's hard to comprehend, but yeah. Obeemer dun did it.

unband

Hey, the average person doesn't even have a complete high school education. The average person is apathetic to most things. The average person is only for the government to analyze, not us. We can focus on people that actively strive for things that matter. We can just focus on ourselves. I don't bite their bait, and I'd fathom to guess you don't, either. So we already aren't the "average" person.

Fuck the average person.

AssaultMonkey

You just gave me hope.

Orwell tried to warn us that the government would try to destroy our freedom, but he couldn't predict the internet. In reality, the internet is basically the counter to an Orwellian future. A network of connections that can potentially be infinitely encrypted, made by intellectuals to allow free spread of information. And it just gets better. It was originally funded by the military. It's just a concept, as well. You can freely make another Web of connections whenever you want to, if you have the right technology.

It's the best vestige of "American" ideals there is left.

Quawonk

This should surprise no one.

unband

Wow, man, just wow. I've been looking at it and there are so many conceivable exploits that it's not even funny. This is really sobering to look at.

aileron_ron

My family lived in Germany till 1933, I am well aware of Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei and how they started out. That's why I made the comparison. By the way what version are you referring to, the real Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei or Americas version.

pessimisticsteel

Can you please explain the difference?

aileron_ron

What ever i say you'll say it BS so Google for yourself.

pessimisticsteel

Different user, but alright

jaceame

Congress: We hate Americans more than terrorists.

Edit: Also do more damage

revofire

And they say to go through the appropriate channels, a revolution isn't needed...

kyprioth

I'm all up for revolution.

ShineShooter

If history says anything, only 3% need to fight. That's how the first revolution went.

Antiseed117

I feel like with the "war on terror" in the news, they would just label the 3% of us domestic terrorist and sell it to the public.

dontwatchtv

But our revoulution was led by the 1%ers. It takes a lot of money to fight a revolution. The rebels got paid and were later given promissory notes.

Even ISIS and Al Qaeda puts their followers on a payroll.

FSA, and AL Nursa is on the CIA payroll.

How long could you fight the government if you weren't being paid or being supported with food, shelter, and ammo?

In a real firefight a lot of ammo is expended for every casualty. The US figures it expended 50,000 rounds for every Iraqi insurgent killed.

unband

Do you know how far this goes? Like, will Apple disclose all my information connected to my account? Or will social media sites like Facebook and Twitter send all private messages to the NSA? Will Voat be affected?

PardiGras

I would just assume they're seeing every. single. thing. you do or say online. We've already been shown that they were when it wasn't legal, why would they stop or even slow down now that its legal?

unband

I see your point. Well, if they're seeing everything, then that means they're either sifting through billions of posts per day with a couple of keywords, or they're trying to monitor every individual message. Either way, that's completely ineffective, even with all the funding they have. So at least there's that.

PardiGras

Not really. Have you looked into the software they use? They don't have to manually do anything. It automatically forms a profile around your online activity and predicts the likelihood of potential threats. The one article I read showed how, with fairly high levels of certainty, they can predict exactly where and when you'll be driving buzzed, cheating on your wife, or picking up a dime bag. No human effort required

unband

Holy shit, really? Sauce, if you have it, please. I'd love (or hate) to see this shit.

There are a lot of systems, datafeeds, software with ridiculous names... tie everything all together and they have their living panopticon. I highly doubt even the operators or overseers know what they are truly dealing with yet.

Would you like to know more?

unband

I can't... even fucking deal with that. That's offensive to look at.

squidicuz

I am sorry. What are we to do?

unband

Supreme Court? Fighting this is gonna be really hard.

PardiGras

I don't have it anymore and couldn't find it with a few minutes of googling. But is it really that surprising? If you have an unending flow of tax dollars, the best and brightest minds in tech, and cooperation from every cell phone provider and local police dept in the country plus all the data from every road camera, dmv database, and license plate scanner, what couldn't you accomplish?

unband

Actual constant valid communication from different resources. Computers fuck up, and people fuck up even more. If you're analyzing millions of user-generated content pieces per hour, you're either catching very little, or you're slowing yourself down to a snail's pace. Unless, of course, you have more computation power than I can even fathom.

unband

Thanks. I'll be reading this.

aileron_ron

He's back Well America does look like it's moving that direction.

unband

Could someone explain the conspiracy behind CISA to me? I'm not very educated on this particular concept.
