Sciency

Pretty sure the guy was just a clever storyteller. He has an understanding of tech that goes beyond the things that 99.9% of people would know, even considering the few goofs I've heard people mention. My guess is this guy was in the tech field, has a boring desk job with tons of downtime, and decided to see if he could pull off a (more or less) completely plausible hoax.

Thsee guys do a really through rundown on the entire thing, I highly recomend their podcast in general

The Titor story is is my favorite I-hope-this-shit-is-true thing. Never get tired of reading it

wompwompwompwomp3

this is fabricated, probably to try and change this timeline. and not in a good way

"User — If you’re telling the truth, the last thing you should be doing is talking about the war and the government.

John Titor — Have you considered that your society might be better off if half of you were dead?"

Holy shit, that one struck a chord.

A world war in 2015 killed nearly three billion people. The people that survived grew closer together.

Oh well, I guess either this is full of it or the premise that time is elastic and will always revert to a single filament could be more true. This would mean that in Titor's 2036 there was a war in 2015 but something happened to change it... Maybe even the fact he came back and talked about it could have affected mass consciousness enough to change events, but there will still be a mass die-off (or something similar, maybe later, etc...).

Pretty neat though.

None of his predictions have come true so far. My spider sense says he's a hoaxer.

I disagree. Listen to this.

Many of his predictions have come true. Pretty much everything up until 2005. We seem to have greatly diverged from the future he described since about 2008, by which time he predicted pretty much everyone would be involved in the 2nd American civil we war (described as 99% vs corporate elite basically), and when he had hinted at Hillary becoming president. (He was asked about the 2008 president which he referred to as "he or she" in his answer. Other presidents were referred to as "he".)

Considering most of his predictions were (from what I could remember) really horrible, is it a bad thing if he were a hoaxer?

Though perhaps he wasn't full of shit but his predictions were really about a very similar but different time-space-line. Or his predictions would have become true on this time-space-line however his presence created just enough of a shift. Though in that case, wouldn't he know the results before he came here?

ParanoidFactoid

You had to get bit by a spider to figure that out?
