The answer is yes to both. Anonymous can sometimes be legitmate hackers using the name as a group symbol, but it can just as easily be used by ANYONE because all it is is a name. If there ever was a real group of hackers that always operated together using the name anonymous, its almost certain they are inactive now or just one of the many groups using the anonymous name now.

i don't think there's any doubt that some of the core values of anon resulted from well-meaning people who are fucking sick of "the system", however, because of their exposure and effect, there is no doubt that the collective has been infiltrated, possibly by some who wish to marginalize the movement, and certainly others who want to gain intel

I agree with your warning about the left taking your rights away, but be mindful that there's plenty of rights the establishment right wishes to keep from you.

Problem with groups like this is that they factionalize and have copycats. While some core members did a few hacks, others were copycats. Others were 'helpers' who never met the core members, and yet others were just more lies and propaganda from the number one liar - The US Government.

Anytime anonymous is mentioned, check for symbols and phrases that anon has used but haven't yet been used in the mass media. If none are present it's likely a three letter agency or a group of moralfags.
