Sounds about right. They'll get away with it too. They are good at covering their tracks.

ShowMeYourKitties

Dr Phill is a douche.. but he has a doctorate, making him a Doctor. Just not an MD, which is what most people think of when they hear/say 'doctor'

Vvswiftvv17

You just jumped the sharked. Seriously, I highly doubt chipotle even really serves non GMO food. They can claim to, but since there are no means tests to prove otherwise, I'm guessing they don't.

DougExeter

Whatever. Fast food is overpriced crap anyway. Make your own burritos and source your own humanely farmed meat if you don't want e.coli

organicgangbang

The fact that these outbreaks were happening in restaurants that get their ingredients from completely different suppliers is pretty damning evidence to support the conclusion of sabotage.

sergeantslate

Yes of course, the company owned by McDonald's would never have cost cutting cleaning methodology...

Gerplunckamo

Or maybe its because some dumbass didn't wash their hands?

Antiseed117

When was the last time you were infected with E. Coli after you didn't wash your hands.

Gerplunckamo

I can't remember the last time I took a shit, didn't wash my hands, and immediately picked up a piece of food and ate something. So, never?

Its not like chipotle employees are world renowned for their hygiene. No one thought there was a corporate conspiracy when it happened to taco bell.

ratsmack

This has been my thinking on this for some time, the numerous cases and in many different geographical locations didn't make sense. Usually these kind of outbreaks are very localized, except in the case of prepackaged food. Chipotle gets supplied from many different sources, which also supply to other companies.... why did only Chipotle have issues?

Deathstalker

This article is actually a paid ad for Chipotle. The only thing missing is closeups of their food.

Sciency

Wouldn't suprise me one bit, but then again neither would sabotage. Either way, someone stands to make a bunch of money.

CIA_KILLED_JFK

Okay the article is talking about Dr Oz like he's a good person and not some full-of-shit-huckster-ass-clown...stopped reading.

DougExeter

I don't understand how people can go around (go on TV) presenting themselves as doctors when they aren't. These people have no shame.

whynotanon1

interesting theory. i sure would love a different source than doctor oz.

TheDude2

It worked because I refuse to eat there.

Onlio

The first thing I thought of was sabotage. I thought from other fast food places because they were taking over. I didn't think of the GMO folks.

Le_Squish

Restaurants take whatever stance will get people in their doors. Being anti-gmo is big business for the restaurant industry and their suppliers. Industrial agri-business is threatened as more and more farmers turn away from their methods to pursue better finacial opportunities.

Mylon

Because serving up good food isn't enough anymore. Food doesn't just have to be good quality and affordable, it has to also be grown from plants fertilized with unicorn poop. Put a mystical and magical spin on it and suddenly it has something the competition doesn't.

Le_Squish

We are in transition. People are actually starting to care about where their food comes from which is good. But not everyone is smart enough to make a transition to sustainable living on their own and there are plenty of businesses with less than good intentions that are willing to exploit that.

Business like Chipotle set an interesting precedent that rattled the fast food industry to its core.

Mylon

It's good to know where our food comes from and to make sure it's sustainable. Unfortunately, the waters are extremely muddled with labels like "organic" (which hardly means anything, they can still be drowned in pesticides) and GMOs (which can be amazing, see Golden Rice) and locally grown (which means tons of waste in the supply chain). These labels don't meaningfully inform anyone of farming practices and instead they're just mystical woo to make people feel important.

Le_Squish

Pretty much. That's why it's important for people like me and you to educate others of their options.
