Russia or Iran.

eyeswide0pen

My vote is for Iran.

I think so, too. The two riverboats being captured by Iran was no accident. I think the US was hoping for a Gulf of Tonkin moment. But, Iran played it nice.

"Who's Next?"

Hmm... Russia, China, North Korea, or Iran. The higher choices would be either Russia or China. North Korea is more of the whinning spoiled child that needs a spanking or two. Due to the new deal with Iran, there would probably no war with them. Unless, Benjamin Netanyahu decide to make a false flag attack, then blame it on Iran only nuke them with their own weapons causing WWIII.

Honestly, to prevent that sort of thing. The US needs to cut all ties or remove Benjamin Netanyahu from power and replace him with an more open democratic leader to create a stable two-party state with Palestine and form peace in the Middle East with peaceful methods.

Imagine China. We would have to take a year just to rebuild our manufacturing base. Then, the amount of work needed for a naval invasion is staggering. That would be a war that would last 10 years+, easy. But it will be great for the economy--a national effort like WW2.

You didn't mention the recession after the Vietnam war. No jobs, but you couldl get 12% interest on your bank savings.

dontwatchtv

That might be due to coming off the Gold Standard in 1971.

jervybingly

Or it might be the result of killing a few million SE Asians with more tonnage than was dropped during WWII and giving billions to a company called Brown & Root that is now Halliburton.

War is a racket.

scvoon

Check out the timing with the Great Depression and American involvement in WWII.

Super_Cooper

I think we'll probably keep messing around in the middle east. I don't see any other potential victims. Let's face it though, this is really a constant war on the American people. The day of the rope is coming.

PraiseIPU

There is always a recession after a war.

It's not a conspiracy it's economics.

When the war machine is running everything is great. But when it slows down people get laid off and have no money to buy stuff. So there is a recession as economies normalize.

Mylon

Recessions lead to war. The peasants grow too many that they can't all be fed so they're sent to the killing fields. The Great Depression happened because even though we got a lot better at killing each other via the Machine Gun, WW1 was more survivable than previous wars. War is the thousand year old remedy to a population surplus. Genocide is another popular option. But war hasn't worked out too well recently and people are well informed and will resist outright genocide.

There are more civilized ways. We don't actually have any problem housing and feeding everyone in the country. We just want to keep clinging to this "work to live" mentality instead of using our godlike technology to free us from labor.

There is always a recession before the war.

When fiscal or monetary policy fails to stimulate the economy, we turn to war.

If our economy wasn't in a recession last quarter, it will definitely be in recession this quarter. Obama seems keen on avoiding war. But, the next POTUS--whoever it is--will likely start something.

SumerBreeze

Wrong - any "official reports" come out way after the beginning of a war or when the war stabilizes.

You are right in that economics is involved, but how it affects economics you are still ignorant in.

DrColossus

That's because America is a war economy. It might be time to consider another option

PraiseIPU

ok I'll get right on that

Mylon

Universal Basic Income would solve the problem very easily. War machine dies down, people lose their defense contract jobs but still have their UBI and can pursue their individual goals instead of chasing an employer that will continue to pay them.

DrColossus

You don't think there are better options than constantly being at war with something or somebody?

PraiseIPU

I think none of us has the power to do anything about it.

NamelessCrewmember

Ironically that kind of change probably requires a war.

Monsantos_Schlong
