Good. Police departments seem to be spending more time shielding officers from standing trial for their crimes than actually trying to keep dangerous people off the street.

That does seem to be the case. It's less "How can we get the most dangerous people behind bars, even if we have to step a little outside our remit occasionally."

And much more "How much can we get away with, even if we have to ruin people's lives wholesale just to get a few more meters out of it."
