Seriously? This guy was on camera repeatedly boasting about how he was armed and dangerous - and then he drove his truck into a police barricade and jumped out of the car. He'd be shot by any armed police officer anywhere in the world, and for good reason. This is classic suicide by cop.

Why did they release the video?

This whole "occupation" just seems like a huge psyop.

This is just the aerial footage.

SoaringChickenNugget

You obviously didn't see the entire video.

Just after 2 mins he clearly knocks somebody down while dodging a roadblock after a chase .

This will be downvoated too because it goes against peoples views. But facts are facts. It's right there in front of your eyes.

People here are no better than anywhere else. You downvoat what you disagree with, even if it does adds to and expands the conversation.

madmalloy

Looks like the guy was jumping in front of the truck and Finikum missed him.

As for you being downvoated, that's on you.

SoaringChickenNugget

That thumbnail is really misleading. I was expecting dashcam or bodycam footage.

madmalloy

Dronecam

grendelbiter

They executed him and tried to execute the other passengers of the car.

Devildetails

You can see him draw or at least reach for a gun.

Found the govt shill

Devildetails

I am apparently the most versatile shill. I have been vocally opposed to a number of police shootings, this one was moderately justified. If he was not drawing a weapon it was reasonable for the l.e.o to assume he was. If you want to be assumed unarmed and harmless don't make a point about being armed when you start your protest.

madmalloy

No one should be assumed to be unarmed and harmless, ever.

madmalloy

I saw him stumble in the snow and grab his side.

Devildetails

Twice? Also, when I stumble I don't bring my hands closer to my body, that's how you fall down, not do my hands go into my open jacket. You want to believe it, so you do.

Lag-wagon

he was shot 6 times. (at least)

Devildetails

How do you know?

Devildetails

Where in that article is the shot count? Additionally, there is a quote that he had his hands up, I saw that to not be true. I'd like to see the other purported video to be sure, but the fed released video is pretty clear.

This is the entire article you linked to. That is not in there.

The three week occupation of the Mulheur Wildlife Refuge building in Oregon profited nothing after the FBI staged an ambush on a desolate highway on Tuesday night as federal and state law officials ambushed the Finicum and Bundy vehicles en route to a meeting at a senior center in John Day, Oregon, not far from Burns. Several hundred people waited in an attempt to discuss the stand off with the patriot group that would never arrive.

The Bundy group were on U.S. Highway 395 heading to a meeting set up by law officials. The occupiers were ambushed in a cell phone dead zone that was blocked off for 60 miles by officers. Officers blame the tragedy on LaVoy Finicum and Ryan Bundy for failing to halt for a traffic stop, which resulted in several injuries and the death of Finicum. Eyewitnesses give a very different account of the event that unfolded that day and one has a video to back up their statement, which shows the lengths the government will go to stop the protest against the Feds for illegally taking over ranchers lands and burning cattle alive.

Robert 'LaVoy' Finicum, a Utah rancher and married father of eleven, was killed in cold blood standing up for freedoms he and the other occupiers feel the lands of ranchers are being stolen by the government with illegal land grab tactics. The peaceful protest at the refuge center was meant to bring national attention to this ever growing problem.

According to Victoria Sharp, who was a passenger in Finicum's truck says, “He was just walking, with his hands in the air, and they shot him dead,” Sharps said, adding, “His hands were still up after he was dead.”

madmalloy

What do you do when you've been shot?

lackscompassion

Well at least we now know he did go for his sidearm.

glennvtx

If you focus on the cops, you will see the kitted up guy's slide move before laVoys arms go down, the first time. I believe he was reacting to being shot, now whether his reaction was to instinctively reach toward a wound, or a gun, either is justified.

madmalloy

I never saw a gun. He got out of the truck with his hands up. Looks to me like he grabbed his side after being shot the first time and even tried to put his hands back up. Then they killed him.

lackscompassion

I don't think the first shot was fired until he reached for his side.

Lag-wagon

he was shot 6 times (at least)

Sciency

How many agents fired their weapon? Seems to me that if there was just 2 fbi shooting, 6 rounds would be less than a second of fire.

Also, what does being shot 6 times have to do with why he may have been fired on?

TheDude2

Totally deserved it. He was putting his hands in his jacket and was known to be armed and dangerous.

grendelbiter

Armed and dangerous, really?

madmalloy

If there was sound we could tell. Personally, I think he died in an ambush, and again, he tried to keep his hands up and I never saw a gun.

I don't think I'll argue this point further knowing that there are gov shills here.

SoaringChickenNugget

Good ol reddit tactic: Anybody who disagrees with your opinion is a shill.

I can't be sure if he was, or was not, going for a gun. But the video clearly shows it looks like he might have been.

madmalloy

I said there were shills here on Voat, not a particular poster.

And the video clearly shows he's dead with nothing in his hand.

SoaringChickenNugget

I never said he had anything in his hand. But even a blind man would see that he was moving his hand in a motion towards something, even if it is just to the top of his jacket, it was an unnecessary thing for him to do.

Maybe he had nothing, but it wasn't a very smart thing to do while there are people pointing guns at him, people that are known to be trigger happy when the slightest irregular movements are made.

I am completely neutral with this situation and am only judging by the video the video, but if this guy was black, it would be a different story. I'm not saying blacks are shot more often because they're black (it's because they're statistically more likely to be involved with the police for violent crime ), but the reaction would be "he shouldn't have moved while the cops were pointing guns at him".

Don't be like reddit and let the facts and evidence stand in the way of your agenda.

madmalloy

I never said he had anything in his hand. But even a blind man would see that he was moving his hand in a motion towards something, even if it is just to the top of his jacket, it was an unnecessary thing for him to do.

Unless he was just shot. It wasn't a traffic stop, it was an ambush with a roadblock in place and agents in the trees.

SoaringChickenNugget

So he was shot before he put his hands up?

Why wouldn't he go down?

And why would they even bother letting him put his hands up, when they could just have shot him without giving him a chance.

I hate police and government as much as anybody, but to me, this guy looked like he was trying to take something from his jacket.

I'm not saying it wasn't an ambush, it probably was, since he was wanted.

And had said this: Death over jail.

madmalloy

He wasn't wanted and he said he would die before going to jail, not that he wanted to go out in a blaze of glory or hurt anyone.

SoaringChickenNugget

But there was a roadblock ahead. As Finicum neared the roadblock, made up of three trucks, he veered left, trying to get around them, but his truck lodged in a snowdrift. (The film shows Finicum nearly hitting an FBI agent.) Once again, police shouted commands to them. Finicum, 55, exited the car almost immediately, with his hands up, and started walking away from the officers. Then he reached for his pocket, at which point a Oregon trooper, from the trees away from the road, shot him.

“On at least two occasions, Finicum reaches his right hand toward a pocket on the left inside portion of his jacket. He did have a loaded 9-millimeter semiautomatic handgun in that pocket,” said Greg Bretzing, the FBI agent in charge of Oregon. Bretzing praised officers for not shooting earlier, when Finicum tried to barrel through.
