I'd like to add my 2 cents. There IS Peaceful Protest and the more powerful version of it is something like a Boycott. A massive organized Boycott. Or a public strike. Peaceful Protests would be planned in advance.

You should be practising boycotts EVERY DAY. There is so much shit out there that should be avoided. GMO's, Monopolies, False advertising, Underpaid workforce, disregard for life. There are companies out there with these morals and they should be actively Boycotted DAILY.

As for making bigger changes, they have to be planned. Baltimore won't change things much because many are in reactionary mode. If you are always reacting to problems, you can't come up with your own solution . Most are reacting to the problems instead of looking for long-term, more permanent solutions.

If I'm not mistaken, the DOJ is already investigating the entire Baltimore Police Department. I'd say that's cause to celebrate, cautiously.

Edit: I feel I need to make an important distinction as to your points above and why they aren't as effective. Yes, what you suggest is proactive and peaceful, however 1) Boycotts of goods and services are done alone, meaning you aren't gathered with a group to even monitor or know if everyone is doing it. This is a solo activity, which doesn't have the same effect as gathering with your community physically to address grievances. 2) Strikes are no longer effective because there is rampant unemployment and anyone can pick up your job, unless you are in a highly technical, specialized field.

Good points. Some things to think about there. Also, with the Baltimore case, the police are trying to d ismiss the prosecuting attorney . Don't hold you breath on the DOJ. We will see what happens.

We could organize a Holiday where we try to get everyone to stay home for a day or two, like Ghandi. Whatever it is, proactive is better than reactive. Cheers.
