mothman was sighted Sep 10th 2001 near the world trade centers. Arrest Mothman!

Two posters have mentioned " the film ", presumably. I suppose it's alright. The book by John Keel is a classic of conspiracy literature. Although /u/ElspethTirel wrote that "conspiracy has become a catchall term", the book is not really a cryptozoology piece. It's much closer to a MIB story. Keel is really good at underlining the human element, too: it seems possible that everyone was engaging in some kind of pronoic mass delusion. Keel is a pretty good writer, and I think you owe it to yourself to start there. The people who want to boil his work down to a Loch Ness parallel (real or not???) are missing a lot.

I drove over the replacement bridge in that town a few years ago. Gave me the heebie-jeebies when I realized where I was. Actually, it was creepy even before. There's just something about that area that is a little unsettling.

Argumentative

Sadly I've still never got round to seeing the film but f.e.a.r was some spooky ass shit, can I take that as your recommendation then? lol

Ina_Pickle

It's spooky and an interesting story. Everyone who has seen the movie seems to have enjoyed it. Give it a go.

mothman prophecies? with richard gere?

it was a long time ago, but i remember hating it. I seem to remember being pissed off that I never got to see the mothman, and that the story was slow. Maybe I was too young; I will have to give it another shot now.

@Argumentative post up after you watch it, and lemme know what you think.

Argumentative

Hey dude, just finished watching it and I'll be honest.. think it's a 're-watch to fully get it' kind of film. I still have no idea if it's trying to warn people or if it's yeno, out yo get them. I'll be looking up more info on it though, it caught my attention like that. And yeah I think if i was a bit younger I wouldn't have liked it that much its a bit slow on the uptake, deffo more a psychological film than a straight out horror. Was pretty gud, would (and will) watch again if only to try work things out a bit better lol if you do watch it again hope you enjoy

Voopin__Voopin

Hell yeah, thank you for that post! I will give it another try.

I was definitely expecting horror, and whenever the movie came out I wasnt exactly looking at life through the same skeptical or critical thinking type glasses.

Argumentative

No worries, and cheers for reminding me I had a film to watch xD

Argumentative

Will do mate, In fact I've got 3 hours before hitman unlocks so I'll fire it on the now and get back to you.

Argumentative

Sounds like a plan, cheers very much.

Alias_Unknown

The mothman is my favorite Cryptoid. The story is quite fascinating. Some of the people who reported sighting the creature were not the type that you would expect to make some random shit up about a giant mothman.

I also recall reading somewhere that there have been similar reports of him appeared in other places around the world, not just in Virginia or wherever that was.

smokratez

I'll have to google that one.

AnarchoCapsLock

It's an interesting mystery. Hard call on whether it's conspiracy, paranormal or cryptozoology but it definitely falls under the unexplained. I enjoy that type of stuff though.

ElspethTirel

I feel like conspiracy has become a catchall term for anything outside the mainstream line of thought.

poly

Thats no accident
