False. Google began with the best of intentions, two nerds in a garage changing the world. Then along came Eric Schmidt, and the establishment at large. Now the founders keep their money riding on the next long shot and sip margaritas as they watch the biggest data company on the planet earn its long awaited due.

I got divorced. So when I did that I had to get a new ISP, the old account was in her name. And I bought a new computer. So I get my new computer, and a new ISP acct. This brand new computer on a brand new ISP acct has been online for 30 minutes. Google somehow knew who I was already.

AreWeHuman

maybe your phone was connected to the same network? it would probably have logged in to google and since both phone and computer would have the same outward going ip google can know.

MrPim

No wifi in the house at the time. So my phone wouldn't have been in the mix. I still can't really explain it. But as soon as I went to do a search it came up w my google acct(at that time just a YouTube acct, that was before G+, and I've never had a GMail acct). IDK, but that fucking thing knew who I was 30 minutes after putting a whole brand new system online.

Every single thing you say makes you out to look a corporate tool. Have you no dignity man!?

Drenki

Oh, another reason I am completely fed up with google:

Search input: "I am the spirit of cell phones"
Results: No pages found containing that phrase. Here's your results without quotes.

Ok, let's try something else.

Search input: "I am the spirit of cell phones" tenchi
Results: Oh, hey, there it is!

Drenki

For years now, I have noticed that Google's search suggestions will use information from the page I'm currently on.

It's started making suggestions from text in images I'm viewing as well.

Quite creepy desu.

salvia_d

wikipedia has it's uses, especially for hard science such as math.

ThisIsntMe123

I'm confused. It gave you a phrase you used once?

LOLATU

I've seen several times ads on my cell phone related to something I was recently having a conversation about. I would love to read about anyone who has actually proven this is happening.

Voopin__Voopin

not sure about cell phones, but there are verified accounts, and resulting lawsuits against samsung and/or vizio about their smart TVs listening to you and serving targeted ads. they are "opted in" from the factory like that, and you must navigate a few menus in settings to opt out.

McBitches

I heard this somewhere else but it seems appropriate here. If the service is free, you're the product for sale. Or something like that.

MartinAllien

Duh; yes, that's all part of the plan. How do you think Google (and others) offering free services are making money? Read the terms and conditions, that'll make your eyeballs pop out..

You're not wrong. It's been proven that tech companies are spying on us to make their advertising more effective.

Jewish owned company.

This is what frustrates me about us.

We created this amazing piece of unfiltered information sharing technology that allowed us to hear and discuss ideas from around the world. Sometimes we had to deal with ideas that were crazy and bigoted, beyond intelligent or just downright bizarre, but at least it was more or less uncensored and open.

Now instead of using that input from every individual to collate, analyse and store the more intelligent innovations, observations and social comments for the benefit of all humankind we've simply gone and created a way to exploit individuals for a monetary gain.

Yay us!

InnatelyAcidic

Laissez-faire at its finest. Let the corporation's run your economy with free reign, fucked up shit happens like giving them the rights of a citizen, though that makes not one logical iota of sense. Corporation's are by default, morally bankrupt, completely apathetic, shit stains on the free worlds proverbial tighty-whitey's.

They pursue nothing other than monetary gain, at absolutely any cost. They care naught for human life, or devastatingly destructive environmental practices, or incidents that occur from their gross negligence, greed, or nefarious machinations.

Free market capitalism is not progression, it is egocentric, grandiose, and destructive on multiple levels.

I'm not an economist, I don't know what system, or combination of systems, would be the better alternative, but we've all got to take a second and come to the logically induced revelation of free market capitalism's innate destructiveness, or we're fucked.

CirdanValen

You are EXTREMELY mislead if you think any sort of governmental entity is any less corrupt.

InnatelyAcidic

You're EXTREMELY misled if you believe a government officially run by a private corporation wouldn't be 10 times the shit show we have today. Look at how bad it is now, only indirectly ran by corporation's through the iron triangle. A true representative democracy, with the governing body comprised of otherwise employed citizens, and not full time politicians, limited to a two term limit across the board, with strict limits on campaign financing; no large donations, super pacts, etc...would be far less corrupt than any corporation, bud.

Maybe you should actually know what the fuck you're talking about, before you accuse me of being inept.

Typical emotionally driven liberal cuck with out any logical ability.

DeliciousNoseClams

What did you think was going to happen?? The thing that voat has really open my eyes up too is there's no such thing as a free lunch, EVERYTHING has it's price. More often than not that free lunch tends to be some so called form convenience/security and the price, obviously is freedoms/rights.

Don't get me wrong I agree with what your saying in theory, but if there's money to be made, morality goes out the window pretty quick in the face of the all mighty dollar.

Konran

Yeah. 'Cos money is God.

Konran

A bullet is a little less personal.

Google is one of the largest advertising companies in the world. You get to use their products for free because you are the product they sell to third party advertisers. Everything from search history to gmail to any query you have on Google maps will be used to help advertisers sell their products.
