He was an incredibly honourable man who very publicly resigned his position in the government, rather than endorse British involvement in the Iraq war. He made plenty of enemies.

While it does seem a bit opportune, generally when a man is murdered there are direct beneficiaries. I fail to see who wanted him dead and why.
