The narrator say that Jacob Schiff's financial support to the revolution was "a strange act for an American", but Schiff had long hated the Tsar for his brutal persecution of Jews. During the Russo-Japanese War, Schiff had helped the Japanese to finance their war effort. Russian Jews tened to support the Bolsheviks for the same reason.
