But his word contradicts with High Priest Bill "the Science Guy" Nye's word who has a cool nickname! I can't side with him after that!

excellent sarcasm you have there bro...

putinpunhere

Yes, both of us know of how unscientific this "Science" is... A true scientist must doubt one's work through the whole process, while they keep saying something like "We are not yet sure" even where there are near-obvious contradictions... No wonder NASA stands for Never A Straight Answer ;)

putinpunhere

With a bit of theocracy, they'll need a religious-like following to secure their power if they want to keep it.

putinpunhere

But we can create the best government.

trollification

This is exactly why there is so much division in the country right now. The reality is that there can never be a perfect version of government. The basic notion of government is in and of itself negative - so any other iteration of it is just going to be negative. The issue is was people consider to be an "acceptable" level for that negativity.

A lot of people now feel more government is better - more control, more laws, more agencies, more oversight etc. I generally believe that smaller/lesser is better. Less babysitting, less bureaucracy. Goverment's purpose should be to maintain shared infrastructure (roads, bridges, tolls, libraries), provide for common defense (military, national guard, border security) and ideally manage a currency (backed by real value). other than that, individual states should be allowed to govern themselves.

pray_the_gay_away

Anyone willing to study and take the test, so probably like 1-2% of people lol.

trucking_foal

My perfect government would be the one I naively thought existed when I was a kid. A Just, fair and righteous governing body that prioritized on each persons individual rights. A constitutional republic.

Hektik

Democratic Socialism. If man wasn't corrupt this would be the best of both worlds. Minimist Capitolism for the "rich" and a social net for the poor. Add in the original 20yrs(-) for patent rights this from of government would be the best.

Capitalism is still rewarded but taxed, Patents are still protected. In one life time or a few the innovation is there to continue R&D. Essentially, you can't have full capitalism and full communism as a gauge of equality. Corporations controlling gov't is neither democratic nor socialism for the uneducated.

luckyguy

None at all.

Codewow

Truly I don't believe there is a "perfect" government. I think democracy is probably the best in theory, but unless it's used as it should be and not corrupted by people wanting to control everything for their own gain, it's not worth it. But maybe I'm looking at it wrong.

Antiseed117

A govt run by engineers and scientists may suffice.

iamrage

You're getting heavily downvoted, but are getting no explanation as to why this wouldn't work.

Take China as an example. Eight out of the nine top government officials in China have scientific backgrounds. Presidential canditate Tony Tan, who has a Ph.D. in applied mathematics. President Hu Jintao was trained as a hydraulic engineer and Premier Wen Jiabao as a geomechanical engineer. China isn't the only case. Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany has a doctorate in physical chemistry, and, going back a bit, Margaret Thatcher earned a degree in chemistry.

Do politicians with scientific backgrounds see things differently when in government? It's certainly possible, but I can't say for absolutely certain.

SCP-169

A technocracy?

putinpunhere

Yes, @Antiseed117 just gave us the definition of technocracy more or less...

Antiseed117

Interesting, didn't think such a thing existed.

go1dfish

The lack thereof.

iamrage

See this is interesting. People who are saying there shouldn't be any government are getting downvoted by one or multiple people, but I don't understand why. Do the downvoters think that we cannot survive without a governing body watching over us? Why? If those downvoting could reply, it would at least give us their perspective on it. Please?

putinpunhere

Well I, support a minimal semi-aristocratic government... Just so they can deal with shit that ordinary people either can't or won't handle.

youser

It's because they can't fathom how voluntary cooperation could ever happen without a government there to force cooperation. It can be hard to get past 25years of indoctrination in a government based system.

frankenham

I've always imagined a life like minecraft where we're all just free to do and create as we please would be near perfect. No need for government telling us we can't cross the street or collect rainwater without a threat of being locked away like an animal.. We're all intelligent people, an easy going lifestyle with small villages would practically eradicate poverty and crime imo.

pray_the_gay_away

I would take what we have but replace Congress with an intelligencia class, people who pass like a mini bar exam on law, public policy, finance, geography, current events, etc. Anyone could take the test but it would require a lot of studying. Direct representation without stupid people, and no way to corrupt.

Codewow

That sounds similar to that Divergent book series almost, minus the factions thing.
