I meant what I said, I don't understand the point you are trying to get across by what you posted. Don't down voat just restate it. Thanks.

STARVE_THE_BEAST

"Free, open, democracy in the middle east" ... no.

sillymanilly

Seriously. I have know idea what point you just tried to make. Can you restate it for me? Thanks

Bindlestiff

this is literally exactly what the guy who said he worked for the KGB said the soviets did. destabilization.

goodluvin

Your tax dollars at work. Serving the corporate elite.

mamwad

But of course, we must not blame the US government for terrorism or Islamic extremism.

McBitches

Naw man. It's climate change.

gosso920

Fracking, dude.

mamwad

Climate change is actually playing a bit of a role. Droughts create food shortages, which lead to civil unrest.

McBitches

Yeah so I've heard. I can believe it too. I know the world isn't black and white. Shit happens for a variety of reasons. It's just funny how they ran along with the narrative.

sillymanilly

I like how people get pissy about what the government does for resources but never mention how much of their lifestyle they are willing to give up to stop it. If your not wiling to ride a bus or walk to work you are part of the "problem".

Joe_McCarthy

Mossadegh was attempting to seize British property and was hobnobbing with Communists to the point that even Iran's clerics feared a red takeover. Both they and Churchill wanted us to act and we did - and during a time that especially with the Korean War going on heightened fears of Communist expansion prevailed.

I seem to recall Obama apologizing for it anyway. Not that he should have.

mamwad

IOW, he didn't support Western imperialism so he needed to go.

Joe_McCarthy

By Western imperialism you mean the oil holdings that the British did the work to develop and which Iran had a binding contract. There were arbitration rules that allowed for Iran to renegotiate for higher percentages of the profits and the British had already agreed to increase their share. Mossadegh, pressured by the reds, rejected this and decided to just steal it all.

gosso920

And now you know... the rest of the story.

Tree_Snake

Why is it that we believe that our democracy is sacred, but others' are negligible?

STARVE_THE_BEAST

Because a "democratically" installed totalitarianism is still totalitarianism.

Tree_Snake

So we installed a totalitarian government to save them from totalitarianism?

I love the internet.
