well that's a little odd. Why take it down so soon? I believe that the bills were knee jerk reactions by the congressmen to seize the moment and put bills out to gain rep among the scared people. i think the shooting probably happened. these things do occur. if it turns out i'm wrong, i don't have a lot of ego invested in it. i'd just like to offer a less sensational account of what could be happening here.

it seems like the writer is making a bigger deal of this than it is. conspiracy sites use clickbait also. if the website were claiming they were a 503c, then yes, it would be a HUGE deal. but they aren't. if you donate to this, you can't claim it as a deduction. you pay taxes on the income, then you give it away. that's fine with me. dumb, but fine. if you give him more than 14k, there's gift tax paperwork for you. on the family (dude's?) end, paypal or the transaction processor writes him a 1099misc, then he claims it on his taxes. it looks like a sole proprietorship which means there's no ein (it would use his ssn) and it's very informally created. for something like this, it could be as simple as one year he starts filling out a sch c with his taxes (that's how i did my contracting work). as for the P.O.box address, that's pretty common, doubly so if you plan to take on the seedy corners of the internet.

i can legally ask people to donate to my "stubbed my toe" fund which advocates for foam rubber coverings on furniture in the same way this guy is going about this. the SP structure allows you to comingle funds all you want, but you have to be able to provide source for expenses you want to deduct. eventually, the IRS will get some justice for anyone angry with this guy because no one does this right, so take some comfort in that. they will stress him in ways that none of you can. also, if he does something that gets him sued, his business and personal assets are on the line and while he might get some "lost my child" pity from a tort, that shit won't fly in tax court.

since this is conspiracy, let us doublethink for a moment. consider that perhaps this greedy misguided opportunistic asshole did lose a kid. that's got to be pretty traumatic for his family. if i were in those shoes, i'd probably want to lash back at the people calling me a faker also. we will just have to wait to see if this idea catches traction and if it does, what he does with the money and who does it next and for what.

and for fairness: this could get nasty if he takes it that way. not being a nonprofit, he can keep the payments more or less secret. hitmen? private eyes? blackhat hackers? they are all just consultants as far as the irs knows. but that's not what the article is about and that's why i wrote this post.

The thing that kills me about it is the children. Now, we can see ISIS slitting people's throats on the news, we can see dead bodies from terrorist attacks, we can even see dead refugee children washed up on the beach...but a mass shooting of children in the United States? Cover that shit up.
